On this hot day in April 2012, to the left of the Brooklyn Bridge is the offices for Verizon. This is not the central office, but corporate headquarters. It’s not to say there might be a few DMS/ESS switches just given the neighborhood. Originally this used to be the administrative offices for New York Telephone in the days of the Bell System. In the 1984 Divestiture, this office became the HQ for NYNEX (New York/New England EXchange, the holding company for New England Telephone and New York Telephone.) NYNEX and Bell Atlantic merged in the mid to late 90s then Verizon came as new name forming the Bell Atlantic/GTE merger.
